Pharmacies

There are many small pharmacies throughout Taipei. If you know what you need, many medications which may be available by prescription only in your home country may be available over the counter. Of course, there are still some medications that are only available through a doctor or hospital such as opiate based pain killers.

A larger pharmacy which is often suggested if you are looking for something hard to find is the Shanghai Pharmacy.

Shanghai Pharmacy
衡陽路32號 / Héngyáng Lù 32 Hào / Hengyang Rd., No. 32
walking distance from Ximen MRT (Blue line, just west of main station).
Use Exit 4. Hengyang ends at 228 Park.

I don't know about specific medications. You can probably get anything here, the challenge is how difficult it is to find, and whether it is from the pharmacy or prescribed by a doctor only. Write down what you need, the pharmacist may not speak English but will be able to read the medication name. If it's not available at the pharmacy, then you may need to try a hospital.

I believe the pharmacy is on the first floor of 32 Heng Yang Rd. Can you get me a phone number and a mailing address? I am doing a history of R&R in Taipei in the late 60s and early 70s, and I believe an establishment known as the Lucky Bar was located there. I am desperately trying to find how long the building owner has owned this site, and how to get in touch with the owner.

I live in Mainland China and need a specific brand of Thyroid medication that is available in Taiwan but not in PRC. Does anybody know of an online pharmacy or one that will possibly ship to PRC?

For those who are looking for this info in Taipei. This Shanghai pharmacy is not very professional.

Needing some medicine at night, I called one evening to confirm when they closed and took a taxi all the way from Tienmu and found they had closed shop even though I got there 7 min before their closing time. I called them from outside but they refused to open up. They couldn’t have cared less. It was really quite despicable behavior.

There are lots of good pharmacies in Taipei, no need to give the Shanghai pharmacy business.
